Publishing and Archiving

The Montana Cadastral Framework database is updated and published in the middle of each month. Users can view the state’s cadastral map and parcel descriptions online using the Montana Cadastral map application ( http://gis.mt.gov). GIS practitioners can download the metadata and the data (by county or statewide) from the Cadastral home page. In addition to the Cadastral datasets, three other important datasets are produced by the Cadastral theme lead:

  • CadNSDI Montana—serves as the state’s PLSS dataset and upon which the parcel data is registered
  • Public Lands—a subset of land ownership data published from Cadastral database
  • Conservation Easements—as subset land information data published from Cadastral database

A web map service is also available here. A copy of the dataset is submitted to the Montana State Library archive at the end of each calendar year if the dataset was re-published since the last submission to the archive.
