Member Barcodes

Introduction

The Montana Shared Catalog uses Codabar  barcodes. They are a 14 digit numeric barcode using Check Digit Calculation Option Mod 10. The digits are:

  • Digit 1 indicates the type of barcode:  2 = patron, 3 = item
  • Digits 2-5 (or 6*) identify the institution
  • The next 6 (or 5*) digits identify the individual patron or item
  • Digit 14 is the checksum

This is a list of the first 5 (or in some cases 6*) digits of the 14 digit barcode for each of the member libraries. Patron barcodes start with "2" and item barcodes start with "3".

* The BridgerNet Group uses 6 digits to identify the institution.
